JVC s First Three-Layer Combo-Disc Blu-Ray / DVD

JVC s First Three-Layer Combo-Disc Blu-Ray / DVD JVC developed and used a high-performance reflective film to produce this revolutionary three layer structure. The outer Blu-ray layer can be read by the blue light laser but it is transparent for the red light laser which therefore has access to the inner dual DVD layer. The JVC disc sums 33.5 GB in total storage capacity of which: 8.5 GB are allocated to the standard video content; 25 GB hold high definition content. JVC unveiled its intentions to promote its disc to the Blu-ray Disc Association, in the spring of 2005. Mass production will begin when BD-ROM players are available, early 2006. The combo disc will be available for a 30% higher price than standard DVDs. The idea is to ease the transition among standard DVD and high definition discs. All big players on the DVD market, including JVC, expect SD and HD DVD to cohabit for a while. At the beginning of this month, Toshiba and Memory-Tech were announcing their dual-layer DVD/HD DVD disk able to store both DVD and HD DVD content. The DVD layer had a 4.7 GB capacity, satisfying specification of current DVD discs, while the HD DVD layer could store 15 GB capacity. At least with storing capacity, until now, JVC (Japan Victor Corporation) is the market leader. The company is currently working on a Blu-ray/ DVD combo ROM disc with even more storage capacity. This later disc will feature 50 GB of high definition data (BD format), stored on a dual layer and 8.5 GB of DVD dual layer structure. How To Put Video On PSP

Those that purchase the PSP may have a specific reason in mind as to why they need or want to play with the PSP, but not many know of its actual power as a multimedia device. You surely know about its power as a video gaming system, you likely know about its ability to play movies for purchase at electronics retailers, and you may know about its power as a web browser. However, the PSP can also be the hub for your movie collection as you also have the power to put video on your PSP. This article will explain how to put video on the PSP : Just as you would do if you were transferring your audio files to an MP3 player, you must first “rip” the movie to your computer’s hard drive with a “dvd decrypter”. There are a bevy of places online to purchase or find free “dvd decrypting” software to be able to complete this process. Just type in the words and make Google do the rest! PSP Video 9 or similar software will convert your ripped DVD to the correct format for your PSP. PSP’s can only read videos in the mpeg-4 format. The best way to describe this is that the original format of your DVD is not supported by your PSP, so you must get it to the format that is supported by a PSP, by using PSP Video 9, or a plethora of other software options which will quickly and easily convert your ripped dvd to the proper mpeg-4 format. Simply search for PSP Video 9 or video converter on Google and take your pick of the many free or paid for options. Once you have your video ripped, converted and saved to your hard drive, you are ready to put the video on your PSP. Be sure you have a large enough memory stick (at least 512 MB) and connect your PSP to the PC via your USB cable. If you are using PSP system software 2.0 or higher, when you formatted your memory stick for your PSP the video folders were created automatically. If the video folder was not created, you will need to do so manually. In the root of your PSP create a folder at name it "MP_ROOT". Inside this folder, create another folder and name it "100MNV01”. This is the folder where you will copy your movie files. Now that you have seen how to put video on your PSP , it should get easier every time you do it. Once your movies are loaded onto your PSP, browse to them with your controls and begin enjoying them at your leisure, whenever you decide. Jerry Highsmith is the gaming expert for You-Can-Learn. A Guide to Data Recovery

We live in a data driven world – almost! A world where computers have become an essential part of lives, any kind of data loss can create a lot of problem as well as tress. Data loss is controlled by many factors that include physical, logical and mechanical problems. 99% of the times, data recovery is possible but 1% times the data can’t be recovered especially if the hard drive is completely damaged. There are also different types of data recovery programs available on the internet that will help you to recover all your important information within no time. These specific programs can initiate data recovery on various storage devices like the hard disk, CD, DVD, USB drive, Zip drive and other media devices. The most common factors causing data loss are hard disk malfunction and virus attack. A top of the line data recovery software can retrieve all the data from a virus infected CD or hard drive and even if your hard disk has crashed. There are many companies who develop, their own data recovery programs, which they use for retrieving lost data and for minimizing the damage caused to your hard disk or system. You can use the following procedures if you experience problems in accessing your data: Most of the data loss occurs due to hardware failure and hence you need to identify the reason for data inaccessibility first. This will help you to understand what process needs to be followed for data recovery. If the data loss is of minor proportions then you don’t need to consult a technical expert. Data recovery companies can charge a lot even to retrieve a small amount of data. If the data loss is due to accidental delete or because of a virus problem then you can always download certain programs from the Internet and run them. Most of the free programs available on the internet will be able to retrieve data with ease. When you are searching for data recovery software over the internet, look for programs that have been given good reviews by various online PC or computer magazines. This will help you to download the best programs available. Some programs will require you to register before you can download them. Look for programs that have a built-in trouble shooting or help manual. This will provide you a step-by-step guide to data recovery and also provide information on what to do if there is a problem. Another good option is to take the hard drive out and attach it to another computer for data recovery. Always attach it to a computer that has similar configuration as yours otherwise it will not be possible to install your hard drive. If and only if you have had a serious problem like hard disk crash or some mechanical or logical failure then approach a data recovery expert. Data recovery companies normally have their own labs, tools and expert staff who can handle some of the most sensitive data recovery processes with ease. In-Car DVD Players are Hot Commodities

One of the hottest consumer commodities at the moment is the DVD. And now the DVD player is set to makes inroads into the automobile accessory market as more and more manufacturers release their new models. It might appear like an unnecessary luxury to many, but for those of us who have children and have experienced a long road trip with them, a DVD player in the car is almost a necessity. There is nothing like a good movie to distract the kids from the boredom of a long journey. There are quite a few choices in the car DVD category. They range from the budget portable players to high end in-dash models complete with Satellite radio. Your choices will be likely dictated not only by cost, the type of vehicle you own but also how much control you want over the viewing. The choices for in-car DVD players include: Portable. These are stand alone systems, much like a notebook and rely on their own speakers. They are fairly affordable and offer the advantage of complete portability and can be used outside of the car. In-dash models that offer radio, DVD, CD, MP3 all in a single integrated unit. Because they are mounted on the dash, the screen might be a little difficult for those in the back to see with ease, especially in bright sunlight. But all the controls are in the front allowing you as the parent to control volume and what is viewed. Roof mounted. These offer great visibility for the back seat, but not tend to cause the front passenger to get a crick in their neck trying to view the overhead screen. Generally meant for larger vehicles such as SUV s and minivans. In-car DVD players can be lifesavers on long trips. As we ve all experienced before, on such trips games such as "I spy" can only go for so long before your kids become bored. By adding a DVD player into mix, you give yourself an option to distract the kids on those long journeys and perhaps give you time to relax a little during the journey. Steve Kalzac Car DVD Players

A DVD Burner - What is That?

A DVD Burner - What is That? A DVD burner is an optical storage device that comes as standard equipment on most PC computers and all Macintoshes made in the last four years. DVD burners write to 5.25" optical media called DVD-ROMs, which can store up to 4.7 gigabytes on one disk. There are also stand-alone DVD burners that can connect to Digital Video Recorders, like the TiVo, but for the purposes of this article, we re going to assume that your DVD-Burner is hooked up to your computer. Most modern DVD burners connect to their computer s motherboard through an E-IDE interface, or rarely, Serial ATA (or SATA) cable, allowing 160 Megabits per second (MBps) of data transfer rate; earlier connection protocols, such as SCSI and ATAPI, aren t fast enough to handle full read/write operations at DVD data rates. While DVD-Burners used to be high end computer hardware peripherals, like all computer hardware, they ve been relegated to commodity pricing. Internal DVD-Rs cost around $30 at online computer parts vendors like NewEgg.com, and the price is relative stable. DVD burners come in a variety of formats - the big choice is whether or not you want one that can only burn to DVDs, or one that can perform read-write operations, allowing you to cumulatively add video (or other files) to the media over time. Read-write burners are called DVD-RW or DVD+RW, while those that are write only, are called DVD+R. You can blame the confusing alphabet soup of acronyms on the consortium that specified the read and write formats - as has become more and more common, the standards body split over whose proprietary hardware would get the sanction and license, and two mildly incompatible standards were proposed. Most DVD-RW burners can now handle both formats, but it does make a difference in buying the blank disks, as the +RW ones are higher quality, last longer, and cost more. This process is repeating itself with HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. The most common use for DVD burners is backing up important (or not so important) data files. Like all backup media, it only works if you re religious about doing it. It does make it possible to duplicate your children s favorite DVDs, hand them copies and keep the originals safe, so that when the inevitable oops happens, they haven t lost their favorite movie. All in all, DVD burners have metamorphosed into standard items of hardware for most computers, and justifiably so. The next computer you buy should have one; whether or not it s worth it to buy one for your existing machine is more a question of how quickly you ll be replacing your current computer. After factoring in your time and the cost of the hardware, it may be worth it to buy a new machine! Home Theater Audio and Video Component Buyers Guide

I truly believe that many people are confused by the words used in home theater equipment such as AC3, Aspect Ratio, Bridging and many others. Almost all of the terminology regarding home theater audio and video components is confusing for most people and is primarily intended for technical reasons. Therefore do not be intimidated by the language used to name and describe home theater audio and video components. Utilize our Home Theater dictionary to learn the meaning of the words used to describe the electronics of home theater systems. The two most important thing in your home theater is to know what viewing quality you want and what sound you desire. By visiting your local Electronics store you can get a good idea from viewing the equipment up close for picture and sound quality and most sales people have the knowledge of there equipment that can convey to you in laymen terms. Once you have decided on a practical system you can buy from the Electronic store, or go online where the best deals are made. The components described below are most important and are what should be focused upon when buying a home theater system. Video Selection #1 in Level Of Importance 1. Choose a TV at least 27 inches, preferably the bigger the better that will fit in your home theater area with plenty of room left over for comfort and a screen size that you do not have to strain to view. Most larger TVs are as cheap as the smaller TVs today...so get what you want the first time around. The components described below are most important and are what should be focused upon when buying a home theater system. 2. Flat screen TVs are the most common for good non glare viewing and are LCD (liquid crystal display) and have optional Plasma screens which is a display technology that you may not notice unless you have the two side by side. 3. Some TVs have built in DVD/VCR and we recommend purchasing a DVD/VCR as a separate component in case of failure. 4. Rear projection TVs are available in TVs with larger screen size of 42 inch and above and is not a advantage in viewing quality. 5. DLP (Digital Light Processing) projection system bring more light from lamp to screen. It also features better color uniformity over time--no burn-in, screen aging or color-shifting possible and is recommended feature for crisp, clear picture viewing. 6. HDTV (High Definition TV) is on the way is and will be the future of TV and is recommended as a must have. 7. HD TV (High Definition Television) are televisions that can process high definition signals thru the use of a separate set box. 8. AVR Receivers(see audio section)for TVs relate more to audio, but do play a role in the refresh rate of the screen, provide video input for games, other devices and synchronizes the sound to the picture. Other type receivers are satellite and HDTV. 9. DVD player/recorder/VCR play and or, record from DVD disks and can be separate components, or all in one unit called combo units. Some DVDs support Windows media such as CD/CD-RW for playing music and, or showing your stored pictures and music. Sound Selection #2 In Level Of Importance. Audio is not that crucial to many as compared to the core of the home theater....which is the picture they see. TVs have speakers built in that will suffice for the better part of us, but add a few good speakers and you have quality sound. Your home theater room, or area plays a major part in how the sound is interpreted in relation to the acoustics of the room, size, furniture, walls, curtains, carpet etc that absorb the signal. As an example a long rectangle room with carpet will have better acoustics than a square room with hardwood floors. The typical entertainment room in your house can not be expected to exactly replicate movie theater sound since a commercial movie cinema is expressly designed for this purpose, unless you are design and construct a special custom home theater room in your home. Whatever your decision you will experience better audio with the proper equipment. 1. AVR Receivers manage all aspects of your audio system and video and considered the brain that controls the video portion and transforms signals into sound. AVR Receivers come in various watts that have separate channels to control and balance speakers. 2. The sizes and shapes of speakers vary significantly and are a wise investment if you want the highest quality sound . The quality of sound is determined by the watts of power they produce..ie a 100W will produce more sound quality than a 50W. The receiver is matched in wattage to correspond with the wattage of the speaker. Of all the audio components below, speakers are the most important of all so get the best you can. 3. Sub woofers increase the bass capabilities of your sound system. Not a requirement except if you prefer the sound of explosive blasts in an action movie. 4. Surround Sound will deliver a cinematic sound quality to your home theater, but is not an essential component. Home Theater Mini System ("In A Box") With a mini system all you need is the TV and installation is much easier than using separate components which may require you hiring a professional. You can get a mini system with just about any feature you want to include DVD/DVR/VCR/AVR/CD, speakers, sub woofers, surround sound etc...The systems are much cheaper in cost than purchasing separate components and the drawbacks are you may be limited on what you can output if you want additional add-on such as video games, extra speakers etc. The mini home theater is basically to run the components provided in the kit and if you want to add on you may not be able to. Another drawback is you may be sacrificing superior video and sound quality for lower a price. Just like anything else there are good mini home theaters and better ones...So get the best if you go this route. DVD Printers - Print Your Own DVD Labels

DVD printers are very useful if you need to print labels directly onto your DVD disc. A typical DVD printer provides text and graphics support so. It is also able to print in monochrome, grayscale, and in color. You can also use some models of DVD printers for bulk printing since they are capable of accommodating several discs. Before you buy that printer… There are different kinds of DVD printers, so choosing one that can serve your purpose might be a little tricky. Here are some tips. 1. Driver. You need to make sure that you choose a DVD printer that has a driver software, or it may not work with your computer. Make sure that the printer is compatible with your computer s system, so check for the minimum system requirements. Furthermore, ensure that it has a USB interface so you can easily connect it with different computers. A DVD printer with a plug-and-play system is best for easier installation. 2. Connectivity and operation. If you intend to produce multiple DVDs at a time, then choose a DVD printer that can be used for bulk printing for mass distribution. However, for personal use, the cheaper single-disc model is enough. Types of DVD printers Thermal DVD printer makes use of press coated ribbons on the disc and heat for transferring the design. They are more costly compared to the other type, which is the inkjet model. However, they print faster and are commonly available in single-disc models. The injket DVD printer makes use of ink cartridges for spraying the liquid droplets onto the disc s surface. Their resolutions are higher and they also have a wider spectrum of colors so you end up with high resolution, scratch-resistant, and water-resistant prints. Searching For The Right Home Theatre Seating

One of the most important aspects of a home theatre doesn t even involve the TV, the DVD player, the projectors (if chosen) or even anything electronic. What good is having the best home theatre in the entire neighborhood if everyone has to sit on metal folding chairs to enjoy it? Finding comfortable but appropriate seating not only allows a solid level of comfort throughout any viewing event, but it also enhances the entire home theatre experience. Obviously cheap metal folding chairs you can buy for $10 at Wal-Mart are probably not your best choice for home theatre seating. That would actually be a major whiff. The choices for various home theatre seating options are extensive, and each has some solid merit and may depend on how many people you generally plan on having over to enjoy the system. Some people like movie theatre type chairs to give it an authentic experience, while for others a comfortable sofa of several recliners is as good as it gets. Don t limit your options, either. This is your home theatre system, and you should get not only seating that works well for the look and feel of your system, but seating that you will legitimately enjoy using. If you want recliners, you can even consider massage recliners, high quality (i.e. not dragged off the corner after college lets out for the summer) top of the line recliners. Home theatre seating is important because if you aren t comfortable while watching a great home theatre system, then what s the point of the rest of it? It doesn t matter how good the rest of the system is because no one will be comfortable watching anything. In fact, the right home theatre seating is arguable almost as important as the sound and picture quality of the home theatre itself! If you don t like the idea of a couch in a home theatre set up, consider a series of recliners in a row. Not only do you get the amazing comfort of recliners, but by having them lined up in a row you can still have the effect of a theatre setting. If you re still confused as how to choose appropriate home theatre seating, consider the following check list: * Is it comfortable? * How many are usually going to be here? A lot, or only a few? * Is the room big enough so no one is crowded? * Do you have the budget to create the theatre you want with the furniture you want? Do you need to downgrade slightly? * With recliners, can you still see everyone from a relaxed position? Can everyone else? * Do you have full support? These are important questions, and if you can answer all of them confidently, then congratulations, you re on your way to an excellent home theatre set up that you, your family, and your friends are going to enjoy immensely. Above all, find what s right for you, since no matter how social you are, this is, in the end, for you to enjoy. http://www.hometheatrefun.com brings you the latest on the home theatre. Home theatre s are very popular, and we want to bring you the most up to date information online! Be sure to check out our latest information page on home theatre seating.

DVD Review - Control Room-2004- Iraq From Al-Jazeera s Perspective?

DVD Review - Control Room-2004- Iraq From Al-Jazeera s Perspective? Documentaries are a strange animal, sometimes they are eye-opening, occasionally the message can be fascinating, and at times they can be little more than average. Unfortunately "Control Room" fits into the latter category for me. Here is an unofficial tagline for the film. for the film: Startling and powerful, Control Room is a documentary about the Arab television network Al-Jazeera s coverage of the U.S.-led Iraqi war, and conflicts that arose in managed perceptions of truth between that news media outlet and the American military. Egyptian-American filmmaker Jehane Noujaim (Startup.com) catches the frantic action at their headquarters as President Bush stipulates his 48-hour, get-out-of-town warning to Saddam Hussein and sons, soon followed by the network s shocking footage of Iraqi civilians terrorized and killed by invading U.S. troops. Al-Jazeera s determination to show images and report details outside the Pentagon s carefully controlled information flow draws the wrath of American officials, who accuse it of being an al-Qaida propagandist. (The killing of an Al-Jazeera reporter in what appears to be a deliberately targeted air strike is horrifying.) Most fascinating is the way Control Room allows well-meaning, Western-educated, pro-democratic Arabs an opportunity to express views on Iraq as they see it-in an international context, and in a way most Americans never hear about. I think whether one gets the above impression from the film will largely depend on where you are starting from. If you are a flag waving, fox news watching imperialist then the film would probably shock you intensely. Ironically, that demographic is also the least likely person to see this film. The film tries (and somewhat succeeds) to tow the middle ground - showing that just as they have an agenda - so too certainly do our American Networks. Much of the most open journalism I ve read about the situation/invasion/liberation(?) of Iraq comes from Australia and Europe. The film should hold something for everyone. The film centres around the moments from the 48 hour warning afforded by Bush to Iraq after the U.N. security council was overruled through to the initial weeks of the troop movement into the country. It seems to be very much in the media game, no less so than FOX/CNN/MSNBC - the spin factor applies on both sides of the equation. The common denominator (those truly affected by the hostilities) is the piece we are left to ponder as usual. The most interesting part of the film is where a US Marine spokesman who is meeting on a daily basis with a Al-Jazeera reporter - trying to manage damage control, semantics and to his credit - find some commonalities. It s a film that asks more questions that it answers. It now being 2007 we obviously can see the decisions made in real time were premature. Particularly the bold statement of Iraq being under control the battle is over and won by GW all those years ago. Sadly, the most natural way we could even begin to understand the media of the Arab world (which may or may not represent its viewers) would be to see it. That of course is not going to happen. A good film, not a great one, it is one of the few chances on the market to see the other side of the coin in what has become the legacy of this decade. Favorite line "Did he work for the BBC?" yes "Ahh..ok....everyone from the BBC ends up working for Al-Jazeera later". Also, someone said - let s just give everyone an American passport and then this can all stop. Since an early age growing up just outside of London, Tim Merrick has had a passion for music and film.
